1. The Wisdom of the Ant: Preparation as Diligence
The Scriptures affirm that foresight and diligence are not merely secular skills but God-honoring virtues. The book of Proverbs frequently commends a disciplined approach to resources and time, holding up a surprising example of wise planning: the ant.
The text in Proverbs 6:6-8 instructs us: “Go to the ant, thou sluggard..”
6. Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
7. Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,
8. Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.
Proverbs 6:6-8
This passage establishes preparation not as a response to fear, but as a product of diligent wisdom. The ant prepares for the season of scarcity (winter) during the time of abundance (summer and harvest). The believer, therefore, is called to be a wise steward of the resources and the time that the Lord provides.
To use the plenty of today to secure a measure of provision for the inevitable hardship of tomorrow is simply prudent management, a principle affirmed throughout the wisdom literature.
2. The Divine Mandate to Stockpile: The Example of Joseph
Perhaps the strongest biblical precedent for large-scale, systematic stockpiling comes directly from the book of Genesis. Joseph, an administrator gifted by God, received prophetic dreams from Pharaoh detailing seven years of abundance followed by seven years of severe famine.
God’s explicit instruction, delivered through Joseph, was to collect and store food. Here is the records...
48. And he gathered up all the food of the seven years, which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities: the food of the field, which was round about every city, laid he up in the same.
Genesis 41:48
This account is profoundly important. The action of stockpiling was God’s plan to save an entire region and, crucially, to preserve the family line that would eventually bring forth the Messiah. Joseph did not store this food merely for himself; he did so as a matter of national and global benevolence.
This demonstrates that preparation can be a righteous act of mercy and service, positioning believers not only to survive a crisis but also to become a channel of supply and comfort for their neighbors and communities.
3. The Crucial Distinction: Wisdom versus Worry
While the Bible endorses wise preparation, it issues a powerful warning against the attitude that often underlies secular prepping: unbridled worry and misplaced trust. Jesus addresses this directly in the Sermon on the Mount, teaching that our focus must remain spiritual.
He declares in Matthew 6:33: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
The danger for the believer is not the possession of stored food, but the placement of their security within the storehouse itself. This concern is brilliantly illustrated by the Parable of the Rich Fool, found in Luke 12:16-21, lets look at it:
16. And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:
17. And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?
18. And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.
19. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.
20. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?
21. So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
Luke 12:16-21
This rich man, boasting of his full barns, planned to simply say to his soul, “Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.” But God calls him a "Fool," for his life was required of him that very night. The error of the Rich Fool was not his diligence in harvest, but his decision to place his ultimate faith in his earthly stores rather than in his Creator.
Therefore, stockpiling is a biblical response only when it is rooted in wisdom and stewardship, and never when it is fueled by a spirit of fear or serves as a replacement for reliance on the providence of God.
The point is that people tend to justify fear by using scriptural verses to make it look divine, the will of God, and the right thing to do. But we forget that God does not want us to rely or depend to anything even if it ma seem like our lives depend on it; because if we do that we will find ourself outside the will of the Heavenly father, which is not what we want to end up happening....
4. The Ultimate Preparation: Seeking the Son of Man
The New Testament calls for an even higher form of readiness, one that far surpasses any physical contingency plan: spiritual preparation for the Lord’s return. Prophecy, in the Christian context, points ultimately to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Regarding this time, we are warned against spiritual slumber.
Jesus states plainly in Matthew 24:44: “Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”
This means that while a pantry full of supplies may assist with a natural disaster, it will offer no salvation when the trumpet sounds. Our most crucial preparation involves faithfulness, repentance, and dedication to the work of the Gospel.
...And it may sound obvious to many but it is what we should be concerned about instead of giving the Devil the opportunity to use his temptations and devices against that we keep on living in fear when God has given us the Spirit of fear and assure us from His Word that he will never leave us comfortless, hallelujah!
Stockpiling food is merely preparing for life on earth; spiritual readiness is preparing for life in eternity. A Christian who prepares wisely is one who utilizes the food they have to serve others today, while keeping their spiritual lamp trimmed and burning for the Master’s imminent arrival, just like the wise virgins:
1. Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.
2. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
3. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:
4. But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
5. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.
6. And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.
7. Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.
8. And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.
9. But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
10. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.
11. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
12. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.
13. Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
Matthew 25:1-13
A Call to Wise and Trusting Stewardship
In conclusion, "doomsday prepping" is not inherently unbiblical; the act of stockpiling food can be a righteous and wise expression of stewardship, modeled by Joseph and commended by the Proverbs.
The true danger lies not in the act itself, but in the attitude of the heart!
Our efforts must be driven by prudence, not panic; by a desire to be generous, not a selfish urge to hoard. We must understand that physical preparation is a temporary measure for temporary troubles. Our hope must never be in the depth of our underground bunker or the quantity of our canned goods, but solely in the unfailing grace and provision of the Almighty God.
In fact believers should learn to trust the Lord God for all their needs iNstead of looking for scriptures to backup the lies that the Devil has fed them; this ia might sound harsh, but the almost all people that think that stockpiling is a solution think so because the fear that their needs somehow in the future will not be met...
...As if somehow God will not have the power or anything that He could do to save His people-IT IS HIGH TIME THAT WE GROW UP AND DEPEND ON GOD 100% INSTEAD OF LEAVING TINY SPACES FOR THE DEVIL TO CREEP IN AND INFLUENCE US TO PREPARE FOR THE WORST, WHEN WE SHOULD BE PREPARING FOR THE COMING OF THE LORD JESUS AND LIVING IN PEACE, glory be to the Highest!
May we pursue a balanced life, using the wisdom given to us to prepare for tomorrow while simultaneously seeking the Kingdom of God first today!
The one who trusts God completely, yet acts responsibly, is the one who honors the Lord most fully, remaining ready to face both the temporal challenge of famine and the glorious, final return of our Savior, Lord Jesus Christ, Amen and Amen!
Give you life to God today and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. Pray this simple repentance prayer now and you shall be saved!
Do not wait for tomorrow do it right now while you still have the opportunity!
